Reason 942 to own real estate: it’s insurable to the full value of the asset, unlike assets held in the bank which are insured up to $250,000 unless the Feds step in and back up everything else. (And I don’t say this lightly).
Real Estate is a Hard Asset
In all seriousness… real estate is an investment that is a hard asset, you own it, and you can use it. Compare this to a safe full of gold, which is great but you have the liability of having so much value there.
For me, real estate is where it’s at. Nothing else in the United States has generated as much wealth as real estate holdings. Today is a great example because of what we are seeing in banking. It’s another reason to have a solid, insurable asset. Real estate can be the house that your live in, or another cash-flow asset.
Of course, crazy things can happen. But when done right, real estate is such a safe investment. What we are learning this week is that these hard assets could potentially be safer than having cash in the bank.
Times of Uncertainty
It’s scary to me that we are in this time where we have rising interest rates causing uncertainty. It leads us to times where there are unintended consequences of putting stress on a handful of banks. It looks like it is happening in Europe as well.
Even though real estate prices fluctuate, there’s no question about that. But when it comes down to the long-term benefits, there’s no safer asset than real estate.
